Every year, millions of animals end up in shelters because they are lost, abandoned, or unwanted. At Blueberry Heaven Sanctuary, we believe that every animal deserves a loving home. That's why we have made it our mission to provide permanent sanctuary to special needs, geriatric and otherwise unwanted cats in our community.
Your donation will help us to:

Ava’s story is one of quiet resilience and the power of kindness. She was discovered in a rain-soaked wooded area of East Orlando, curled protectively around her two tiny kittens. A compassionate passerby spotted them and immediately reached out to a rescuer for help. Sadly, a third kitten had also been seen, but by the time help arrived, it was too late to save her.
Ava and her babies were brought into foster care, where they could finally be safe and dry. Once the kittens were weaned, Ava was slated to be returned outdoors, but her foster realized something deeply troubling — the place where Ava was found wasn’t just lonely, it was dangerous. She was a gentle soul, not quite suited for adoption, but also not safe to return to life on the streets.
That’s when Blueberry Heaven Sanctuary became her haven. We were contacted about giving this graceful, tuxedo-coated mama a permanent home, and without hesitation, welcomed her into our sanctuary family. For the past two years, she has lived peacefully among her fellow rescues, surrounded by love.
Recently, at the age of ten, Ava developed a severe case of stomatitis — a painful, fast-spreading infection that required emergency surgery to remove all her teeth. Thanks to swift veterinary care and her own fighting spirit, she came through the operation beautifully. Now she’s recovering in a cozy crate in the cattery, surrounded by familiar faces, resting comfortably as she finishes her antibiotics.
The cost of her urgent care reached $1,973, and we are humbly asking fellow animal lovers to help us cover this expense. Your support will ensure that Ava continues to live out her golden years pain-free, surrounded by warmth, friendship, and dignity.
Thank you so much for reading about Ava’s journey — every gift, big or small, means the world to us.

Thank you!!!
This fundraiser reached its goal and is now closed.
This past year has been particularly harsh, as we have lost several of our beloved residents, including 16 yr old Pinkey, 5-month-old Milo, 2-year-old special needs hen Gladys, 10-day old Felicity and Patches, 4-week-old Feivel, and most recently 9-year-old Peeta who developed brain cancer and crossed the Rainbow Bridge on September 5th.
Losing our beloved residents is heartbreaking, and sadly, also often means our funds become severely depleted, forcing us to reach out to the general public for support in our continued mission.
If you are not comfortable making a monetary contribution, please consider sending something from our Chewy and Amazon wish list, as that too is a great help, allowing us to divert resources from our food fund to cover our mounting veterinary bills.
Just yesterday, our 8 year old tuxedo, Pippin, was rushed to the ER with urinary blockage. He's stable now, but will require extensive surgery to bring back his quality of life, and we know he has many more years to share with us, so any other option besides surgery is not considered. His surgery, and current hospitalization, will top $4500.00, putting quite a dent into our budget for the rest of the year, and that is assuming no other major emergencies befall us.
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR YOUR DONATIONS!!
While veterinary expenses can add up quickly and become costly, they are not constant - but food, litter and supplies are a monthly expense, costing the sanctuary roughly $1950/month

This is Milo when he arrived at BHS - today he's a big, rambunctious "teenager" who's quickly establishing himself as the Alpha among his kitten peers, Merry and Willow.
Updated: Milo sadly passed away very suddenly of FIP on Valentine's day 2024- he was only 5 months old...if you'd like to make a donation in his memory, please write that in the memo line of your Zelle/Check/PayPal donation :)
Milo’s passing was truly heartbreaking. FIP is a devastating disease, often appearing suddenly and leaving little time for intervention. Despite our deep commitment to providing the best possible care for all our residents, we were only able to confirm his condition at the very end of his life.
At the core of our mission is the promise to always act in the best interest of those entrusted to us. We tirelessly seek treatment, enhance their quality of life, and ensure they experience love and comfort. But sometimes, the most compassionate choice is a peaceful and humane farewell, even when it shatters our hearts.
Thank you for standing with us in this difficult time. Milo’s love will never be forgotten.
